Estrogen dominance is a condition where you can have normal or excessive estrogen, but have too little progesterone to balance estrogen’s effects in your body. Women with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) frequently do not produce enough progesterone, which is believed to be caused by estrogen dominance. This hormonal imbalance causes many health problems including infertility, PMS, depression, headaches, weight gain, hair loss, acne, loss of libido, and fatigue, among other issues.
Man-made chemicals in our environment, called xenoestrogens, often mimic naturally occurring estrogen in our bodies and act as endocrine disruptors. These xenoestrogens cause damage to our immune systems and lead to estrogen dominance and PCOS. Xenoestrogens are everywhere, from pesticides, pollution, growth hormones in meat and dairy products, cosmetics, and plastic containers or bottles we eat and drink from. This is the reason why estrogen dominance has become a huge problem for men, as well as women.
Diet and stress are also important factors when it comes to balancing your hormones. Many people eat a lot of food that has refined flour, sugar, simple carbohydrates and artificial ingredients. This diet can lead to insulin resistance, obesity, digestive problems, cardiovascular disease and estrogen dominance. People who are sensitive to gluten are also high at risk for estrogen dominance if they continue to eat it because it causes inflammation the same way that continued stress does. Stress or the aforementioned diet causes your body to produce extra cortisol to manage the stress, so then your body stops producing important sex hormones.
A good diet for fighting estrogen dominance would be by eating a lot of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. Avoid foods that are high in saturated fat, such as meats, cheeses, and fried foods. Try to avoid smoking, too much alcohol, caffeine, or eating processed foods. Also get plenty of sleep and try to reduce stress with methods like meditation or yoga.
We use DIM or Di-Indoly Methane, (a form of phytonutrients) in our Estro Block supplements, which can be found in many vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, cabbage and brussels sprouts. These foods and special ingredients in our supplements, along with fiber, are great for estrogen metabolism. Taking our Estro Block supplements, along with diet, exercise, and reducing stress are the ways to combat estrogen dominance and PCOS. The Delgado Protocol is here to help you have better health and relive those frustrating PCOS/estrogen dominance symptoms!
